This post is inspired by Nims Dai, founder of Project Possible and the lead actor in the Netflix Film, 14 Peaks. If you haven't seen 14 Peaks, please make sure to watch the trailer to the film at the end of this Blog post as a teaser taster of this incredible documentary (available on Netflix).
New years resolutions
At the beginning of a new year, you sort of have this mixed blend of reactions from people around you. Some look to the year with huge aspirations and excitement for what lies ahead. Others look back at what they experienced in the past year with horror and despise.
Our lives are filled with polarity. We go through seasons of summer-like opportunity; contrasted by sudden, unexpected winter-like periods of loss. Mostly, we can't fully control it, which makes you feel overwhelmed and vulnerable.
Isn't it easier to just give up? The answer is probably yes, it might seem like it in the short term. But that's not why you are here. You are not here to give up, give in or give over. You are here to fight, bring light and ignite change. Faced with sever physical, emotional and personal, adversity, Nims simply states "giving up is not in the blood son, its not in the blood" - Nims Dai (Author of 14 Peaks).
Make a decision for success and resilience.
The thing is, we get to choose; not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us. We get to choose how we will respond in times op opportunity or hardship. We decide our resilience, and we decide who the individuals or groups are that surround us in summer or winter seasons. We decide when we give up and when we keep going.
Jim Rohn said: "It's not so much about the blow of the wind, as it is about the set of the sail." The wind of opportunity and loss blows over everybody, but the one who can set his sail to ride out the storm is the one who will reach the tranquillity of the ocean on the other side of the storm. With a strong mindset, that which drives us in the eye of the storm becomes the inspiration that can inspire us to keep going, get back up after the smack of a wave and live to fight another day.
Surround yourself with positive people.
It's important to know what you stand for, what you believe in, who you are fighting for and what you want to achieve with your life. These are the things that inspire us to get back up when we get caught in the middle of hardship. Don't lose hope. Keep moving forward amidst your challenge and surround yourself with people who will lift you up rather than drag you down.
I want to inspire you today, to be the one who carries your people through the storm. Surround yourself with positive individuals, people who share your passions, believes in your dreams and believes in the value of life.
Proverbs 4:23 Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.
We must choose keep going and lead others to join us in taking the next step toward the summit.
Nothing is impossible.
